Lottery winner appoints Derby Wealth Manager
Lottery winner Matt Evans from Cardiff, who won £2.6m on the National Lottery, has appointed Derby based Rhodes Wealth Management to manage his new found wealth.
Matt, who is a postman, has been friends with Adam Rhodes, Director of Rhodes Wealth Management for over a decade, so Matt automatically thought to get in touch with Adam for his advice after finding out that he had won the lottery.
Commenting, Matt said, “Although I was really excited about winning such a huge, life changing amount of money, I was also very keen to ensure that I didn’t get carried away with my spending.
I met Adam and we completed some cash flow modeling to give examples of what could happen to my money based on a number of scenarios. This has helped me understand how my fortune will grow, what I can spend now and how to invest wisely to ensure I have a regular income. As a result, I have been able to buy the immediate treats I wanted, help my family and friends and, more importantly, ensure I do not become known as a lottery winner who ended up having nothing left.”
Commenting, Adam Rhodes said, “I was delighted that a friend of mine had won the lottery and I am very glad to be able to assist him. Helping our clients understand the financial impact of their spending and investment decisions is what we are really good at doing. To suddenly come into such a fortune can be quite a shock. Whilst it might solve many initial problems, instant wealth can make life more complex and lottery winners particularly can be prone to making poor decisions and being overly generous. Having got over the initial euphoria, Matt was very sensible about seeking advice, and I am delighted to have helped him plan his future financial security.”
A keen sports fan, Matt has already spent some of his winnings hiring a box at Cardiff City Football Club, going to Rugby World Cup games and he also has plans to go to the Lions Tour in New Zealand, the Ashes in Australia and the Grand Prix in Monaco.
Before his lottery win, Matt lived with his Mum and Dad and their 7 dogs. He still lives in the same town but now owns his own substantial property and a new BMW M6.
Despite all the luxury that Matt’s new wealth could afford him, he says the very best thing about winning the lottery is having the space at home to host all of his family for Christmas dinner! At Christmas, he was able to host his entire extended family, including his 7 nieces and nephew and his Mum’s dogs - 3 Chihuahuas and 4 pugs; and said it was by far the best family Christmas they had ever had.
